Hillside Church is grateful to be part of the Foursquare Gospel Church of Canada — a family of churches united around a shared faith in Jesus, a commitment to Scripture, and a deep reliance on the work of the Holy Spirit.
While each local Foursquare church expresses this faith within its own unique context and community, we value the accountability, support, and shared mission that comes from belonging to a denomination. Being Foursquare helps shape our theology, leadership, and spiritual life, while still allowing Hillside to live out our calling in ways that are rooted in our local Airdrie community.
At its core, the Foursquare Gospel Church of Canada is committed to:
Making disciples who follow Jesus in everyday life
Teaching Scripture faithfully and living it out practically
Depending on the power and presence of the Holy Spirit
Developing healthy churches led by servant-hearted leaders
Partnering locally and globally to share the love of Christ
The name Foursquare reflects a historic Christian understanding of Jesus as Saviour, Healer, Baptizer with the Holy Spirit, and Soon-Coming King — a framework that continues to shape our faith and mission today.
This mission stands on the foundation of the Great Commission given by Jesus in Matthew 28. The goal is not only to make converts, but to make disciples who both believe and live out the truths that Jesus is our Saviour, Healer, Baptizer with the Holy Spirit, and Soon-Coming King.
Healthy local churches create environments where disciples can grow. Leadership within this vision reflects the servant leadership modeled by Jesus, and believers are encouraged to see following Christ as a journey of ongoing growth. As disciples mature, they are invited to share their faith through their lives and stories, reflecting the heart of Jesus for those who do not yet know Him.
We recognize and celebrate all true believers as part of God’s family. Rather than competing with other churches, we seek cooperation and partnership whenever possible, celebrating what God is doing across His Church.
We believe God calls men and women, people of all ages, and individuals from every background to lead His church. As Scripture affirms, all are one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28).
If the early disciples, who were trained directly by Jesus, depended on the power of the Holy Spirit, how much more do we today. We express this dependence through prayer and through ministering with an expectation that the Holy Spirit works actively among us.
We believe knowledge and experience belong together. Doctrine is held in balance with the fullness of Scripture, and ministry is expressed without extremes that distract from Christ. The Foursquare doctrine reflects a thoughtful and biblically balanced approach to truth.
Relationships are bridges for ministry and opportunities to express Christ’s love. This value shapes a culture of honour and a commitment to building, preserving, and restoring relationships.
Jesus calls His followers to make disciples of all nations. We believe in sharing what God has given us globally, while also receiving from the faith and gifts of believers around the world. Looking beyond ourselves helps us reflect God’s heart more fully.
At Hillside Church, these beliefs and values help shape how we live out our faith locally — in our worship, our leadership, our relationships, and our service to the city of Airdrie.
While we are proud to be part of the Foursquare family, we also believe deeply in expressing this shared faith through a grace-filled, relational, and community-focused church life. We are thankful for the wider family that supports us, and even more thankful for the opportunity to live this out together as a local church.
