At Hillside, who we are is shaped by who Jesus is and what He is doing among us.
We are not a finished church filled with finished people. We are a church family being formed together — learning to follow Jesus, to live faithfully, and to become more fully who He is calling us to be.
There are four words that help describe the kind of church we are becoming together:
We are a family, rooted in the Word, formed by grace, for our community.
“God sets the lonely in families.” — Psalm 68:6
“One generation shall commend Your works to another.” — Psalm 145:4
Hillside is more than a gathering of people who happen to meet in the same place each Sunday. In Jesus, we have been brought together as brothers and sisters — a spiritual family learning to share life and faith with one another.
That means there is room here for every generation. Children, youth, adults, and seniors are not separate parts of the church; together, we are the church. Every person has a place, a purpose, and a voice.
We learn from one another. We care for one another. We make room for one another. And from one generation to the next, we walk together as family.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” — Colossians 3:16
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
God’s Word is the ground beneath our feet.
We believe Scripture is living and active, revealing Jesus to us and shaping who we are becoming. In a world where ideas, assumptions, and values are constantly shifting, we want our lives to remain deeply rooted in what God has spoken.
So we open the Bible regularly.
We listen humbly.
We allow it to challenge and shape us.
And we seek to live faithfully in response.
Being rooted in the Word does not mean pretending we have every question answered. It means returning again and again to Scripture and trusting God to form us through His truth.
“It is by grace you have been saved, through faith.” — Ephesians 2:8
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” — Philippians 1:6
We believe God is at work in people.
None of us arrives at Hillside as a finished product. We are all being shaped, healed, challenged, and transformed by the grace of Jesus.
Because of that, Hillside is a place where there is room to grow. Questions can be asked. Stories can unfold. People can take steps of faith. We want to trust the work of God in one another, encouraging people as they become who He is calling them to be.
Grace also teaches us to make room for one another. Our church family includes different generations, cultures, backgrounds, experiences, and stories. We do not need to be the same in order to belong together.
We believe there is beauty in that difference — and that we become stronger as we receive one another with grace and allow Jesus to form us together.
“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city… pray to the Lord for it.” — Jeremiah 29:7
We believe Airdrie should be better because Hillside Church is here.
Jesus has not called us simply to gather with one another, but to live with our eyes and hearts turned outward. We want to be a church that notices our neighbours, serves generously, prays faithfully, and responds practically to the needs around us.
Our faith belongs in our homes, workplaces, schools, neighbourhoods, and city — not only inside a Sunday gathering.
Wherever God has placed us, we want to reflect the love and presence of Jesus and seek the flourishing of the people around us.
This is who we are becoming together:
A family, rooted in the Word, formed by grace, for our community.
We belong to Jesus, and because we belong to Him, we belong to one another. Together we are learning His Word, receiving His grace, making room for one another, and carrying His love beyond ourselves.
We do not simply gather as family.
As family, we go.
