Luke 18:10-14; Titus 3:3-5

In this message from our Stuff You’ve Googled series, God Helps Those Who Help Themselves, we explored a phrase that sounds biblical but actually points in the opposite direction of the gospel. Looking at Titus 3, we were reminded that God’s mercy is not a reward for the capable, the successful, or the self-sufficient. It is a gift given to people who are in need.

This sermon invited us to let go of the pressure to prove ourselves worthy of God’s help and to honestly acknowledge our dependence on Him. The good news of the gospel is not that God helps those who have it all together—it is that God meets us in our weakness, extends His mercy, and does for us what we could never do for ourselves.
